Angie Cairns Parachute Jump ...
Hi everyone! I did my charity parachute for Huntington’s Disease Association and it was absolutely amazing and I had perfect weather.
Jumping out was easy – we were at the back of the plane and all the experienced jumpers went out first. Just before we were going my instructor tightened the straps attaching me to him, we moved down the plane and I got into jump position. I basically had my head back against him, my lower legs tucked between his and my arms crossed against my chest.
Very quickly we moved down and were out of the plane. I opened my eyes a couple of seconds into free fall and it was amazing – we were going so fast but there was no sense of being so high. It was very noisy and we spiraled a lot. After about 50 seconds of me making faces at the bloke opposite making the video the parachute opened and I was flung back and everything slowed really as if in slow motion.
I could hear Mike my instructor again and he gave me the parachute toggle controls. As soon as I started to move direction I simultaneously began to feel sick! It just hadn’t occurred to me that motion sickness might well kick in! Mike handed me a sick bag and took the controls!
We went down really slowly and landing was fine. I loved the whole thing but was just frustrated by the fact that I couldn’t do more stunty stuff with the parachute. Once back on the ground I made it onto the mini bus and back to the base before I was actually sick!
I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone – just a fantastic feeling of flying through the air – I wanna be a bird!
